Fable Reboot Wishlist: 5 Things We Want (And 5 We Don't)
7. Don’t: Easily spam-able combat
Fable was not only a fun game because of its humour, but also because of how good the combat felt. The biggest die-hard fans of the franchise will always discuss how much they love the combat system in the games, and they are right as it's incredibly fun to play.
However, they cannot argue that it isn't broken.
The combat spelt a problem for the Fable franchise, in that there is minimal challenge or consequence to it. Not only was it easy to take out hordes and hordes of villains by merely holding the B button to cast magic, but death meant so little. This lack of consequence, led to players spamming the same controls, again and again, to defeat enemies.
Whilst this combat feels excellent, the game can become way more fun if more benefits and restrictions are put in for each discipline. Allow for players to specialise in certain areas, but make it so that they can't use the same objectives over and over again.
This could be achieved by either fixing the broken combat or putting systems in place that make you require different techniques to battle different enemy types.
