Fable Xbox Series SX: 10 Things It Can Learn From Yakuza

6. Immersive Side Stories

Beyond the many time sinks around Kamurocho and the other cities focused on in the Ryƫ ga Gotoku classics, there are the sub-stories and side stories that serve as simple and often humorous distractions from the usually quite serious storylines, and bring a little more character to the world.

Will you buy a young boy his first adult-oriented magazine from a vending machine? How about chasing down a series of muggers who, in turn, are getting mugged themselves, in order to return a video game a child is buying for their dad?

These sub-stories can be quite simple sometimes, but others can lead into entire series of stories not just throughout a game but throughout the series as those characters return in later games.

The sidestories are more detailed, full-on storylines that are usually designed around minigames so well-crafted they could easily be released as budget games themselves.

Here we head out into the untamed wilderness to hunt, follow a quest to become an idol, or manage a Cabaret Club in Yakuza 0's addictive extra storyline. Dozens of hours can easily be poured into these stories without getting bored, and this is something Fable could benefit from.

After hearing that you are what you eat, Mik took a good hard look at his diet and realised he might just be a szechuan spare rib alongside prawn fried rice.
