Fallout 3 Anniversary Edition: 9 Longstanding Issues Bethesda Must Fix

7. Balance Out The Difficulty (Especially At Higher Levels)

One of the best things about Fallout 3 is how punishing its post-apocalyptic world is. Until you're well into the 10s in terms of your level you'll be fighting for your life regularly, scraping through battles and constantly on the back foot. Unfortunately, once you do become a little more powerful, this element is all but stripped away, and you never really have to worry about enemies or resources ever again.

Obviously, a game is supposed to make you feel stronger the longer you play, but the lack of any real threat damages Fallout 3's final few hours, especially when you can become proficient in any style of play. Going forward, Bethesda should look into balancing this sense of difficulty even more, potentially adding in a few more options for returning players.

Something close to New Vegas' hardcore mode or even 4's survival mode would go a long way in scratching an itch for players seeking a bigger challenge, and could add a new twist to a game that most people have already played to death.
