Fallout 4: 10 Essential Survival Tips For New Players

8. Radiation Isn't Good For You

In previous Fallout games, getting radiation poisoning was akin to coming down with a cold. It was a bit of a nuisance, but not generally something lethal or particularly crippling. That's all changed in Fallout 4, as getting too much of the radioactive bad stuff into your bloodstream has a far more dramatic impact on your health. Specifically, the more exposure you have to radiation, the smaller your health capacity becomes, making it comparable to being hollowed in Dark Souls 2. One way in which radiation in Fallout 4 is like the common cold is the fact that you can catch it very easily. There are a lot of radioactive environments, nearly all mutated creatures can irradiate you when they punch, bite or slap you, and you should always cook your meat before eating it (an invaluable Fallout lesson that, believe it or not, can also be applied to the real world). To protect yourself from the nasty effects of radiation poisoning, use Rad X to build up your radiation resistance, and Rad Away or a doctor to get rid of it once you're poisoned.
