If youve never played the original games and youve just started out with Fallout 3, this is going to be an incredible moment that lets you know exactly what kind of game you are dealing with here. Even if you did play Fallout 1 and 2, this is still the most memorable moment out of the entire franchise and it is one that you could intentionally avoid or skip altogether. Megaton is the first major city most players in Fallout 3 will encounter. It is also a pretty safe bet to say that it will be the main hub for most of them. It has a ton of quests, it has the shops you need, you can even get a safehouse here. This is a place you are going to be revisiting a lotor is it? Despite its huge importance, the game gives you the option of completely blowing up Megaton to smithereens very early on. It appears that the city has some powerful enemies and it would be such a shame if that undetonated nuke just sitting there in the middle of the city would go off by accident. That is exactly the scenario that the game places before you. Either disable the nuke permanently or trigger it to explode in order to appease Alistair Tenpenny and secure a place for yourself at the swanky Tenpenny Towers. If you do decide to blow up the city, you get some premium front row seats to enjoy the light show.
