Fallout 4: 10 Jaw-Dropping Moments From The E3 2015 Demo

4. The Return Of V.A.T.S

Percentage-based aiming systems have been a part of Fallout as long as the wasteland itself, but it was when Bethesda took the reigns back in 2008 that it really started to stand out as a signature inclusion - and a genuinely fun reason to play in itself. For F4 there was talk that maybe V.A.T.S would be replaced by something else. Perhaps a top-down mode akin to the originals that would take Dragon Age's combat and apply some stats to various body parts before hitting a button and watching everything fly? Nope, instead the developer has doubled down on what was already a brilliant system in the first place, making the switch into this slow-motion mode far faster and more seamless than before - as well as letting you know when various perks are activating. As Fallout 4's new engine looks very robust and solid in its execution, everything V.A.T.S-related now looks impeccable, finally nailing its execution as the visual spectacle it was born to be and looking to make combat a joy.
