Fallout 4: 10 Key Lessons From 2013's Biggest Games

2. Philosophy Sells - Bioshock: Infinite

The Bioshock games are heavily rooted in centuries of philosophy, both political and otherwise, with its perspectives on the pros and cons of order vs. anarchy, and how the nature of humanity, when given free will, will almost invariably lead to destruction over a long enough timeline. Of course, there's also the idea of different universes and dimensions, which opens up a whole other can of worms about how other versions of the self might exist differently and so on. The Fallout games to date have all been literary, intelligent and political in their own ways, which is somewhat unavoidable given the numerous factions who inevitably end up facing off against one another, each with their own delineated set of motivations. Choosing your side is itself a philosophical quandary, and Bethesda will be smart to follow up on that in Fallout 4 while making sure to still retain the good 'ol fun of blasting a guy's face to pieces.
