Fallout 4: 10 Small Problems That Stop It Being Perfect
2. Giving The Player A Voice Ruins Immersion
This gripe is a little bit more divisive than others, but I am firmly of the opinion that giving the player a voice was a regressive addition to the series. I understand that it can add drama and that it does work sometimes, but the fact that it's the same voice every playthrough vastly limits the ability to roleplay like in past titles. I honestly love the sass that the sarcastic responses bring with them, but I'd be willing to part with them if it meant I was able to better hone and personalise my experience to me alone. A voiced protagonist has worked in Mass Effect (well, at least if we're talking about Jennifer Hale's performance as Shepard), but it just doesn't translate well to Fallout and won't with other Bethesda RPGs.
