Fallout 4: 10 Things It Did Better Than EVERY Other RPG
2. The Best Monster Designs
The perfect follow up to the examination of Fallout 4’s environments is to look at the monsters that inhabit these areas. Many monsters in the game’s repertoire return from previous instalments in the series. Fan favourites such as super mutants, feral ghouls and death claws all make an appearance but have all been redesigned to fit Fallout 4 better.
The game now seems a lot more fast-paced with its improved gunplay and a Vats that only slows time instead of freezing it. So, this means that many of the enemies were changed to increase the level of stress you felt by closing the gap in a quicker time. Mole rats can now burrow in the ground, and Feral ghouls can cover more ground than an Olympic sprinter.
Another great factor is the totally new enemies.
Some are old favourites that have had additions, such as the super mutants that will chase you down with a nuke in-hand, taking you both out in the process. An example of a brand-new creature is the Mirelurk Queen, a behemoth that will take a great deal of damage, working in the early and middle stages of the game as a mini-boss.
These new enemies and redesigns of classics keep new and returning players on their toes. You lose that feeling of being comfortable as you no longer know what is coming, something that many RPGs lose as they progress.
