Fallout 4: 10 Things It Did Better Than EVERY Other RPG

1. A Phenomenal Score

Fallout 4 character
Bethesda

The in-game environmental music in Fallout 4 is fantastic.

You may find yourself walking through a lonely area of the wasteland, where you can hear nothing but the wind and a calming tune. Then the next moment, you hear it. The music jumps up - something has seen you.

Nothing makes a Fallout player more nervous than that music cue, it could be nothing more than a mole rat, or it could be a Deathclaw that will kill you with a single blow.

The real ability of the music in Fallout 4 is how it sets the scene for whatever area you may be in. A player will be put at ease by soft music when they are in safety or rallied when they suddenly find themselves in danger. Other times, the music will leave you with nothing more than the background sounds, so as to show you just what sort of place you're in.

Many RPGs have very good soundtracks but not many have a soundtrack that creates as much atmosphere as Fallout 4’s does.
