And so we arrive at the crux of what Fallout is truly about for many. Despite all of the new features you've read about so far, there's one thing that's always remained constant in the Fallout universe - even stretching as far back as the original, isometric format of the originals. Exploration. You'll spend weeks raising your own settlement, days agonising over how to customise your newest weapon and hours deciding which perks to take and which to ignore, but all of that time is a drop in the ocean compared the meat of the Fallout experience. As soon as you emerge from Vault 111 on release day, story commitments will take a back seat. Try as you might to stay on track, being given total freedom to explore is a powerful draw. Just point yourself in a direction and start putting one foot in front of the other. Where will you end up? Nobody knows.
