3. Everyone Needs Friends
Companions were awful in Fallout 3, let's face it. AI is rarely ever something that's worked flawlessly in video games, and Bethesda's monstrous open world RPGs are no exception to the rule. Dogmeat returns for Fallout 4 looking better than ever, but we all remember the painful days of yore where the faithful canine would go missing in the endless expanse of the wasteland, never to be seen again. Things have changed this time around, though. Dogmeat is now marked as an essential character, i.e. He cannot die. So that's accidental death out of the equation, but that's no good if he's not actually useful, is it? How about giving him the ability to fetch items, attack on command and even sniff out well-hidden treasure? Yeah, he can do all of that. But the most exciting prospect of Dogmeat 2.0 is his authenticity. Bethesda actually went through the process of motion-capturing a real dog for the role to strengthen the bond between man and his best friend. Now that's commitment.
