Fallout 4: 12 Settings That Would Be Better Than Boston

1. Chicago, Illinois

Despite Bethesda claiming that Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel was a non-canon entry to the series, key events and themes from the game are referred to within Bethesda's Fallout universe. The established ideas are that Chicago itself was utterly decimated during the Great War, that there is a rogue detachment of Brotherhood of Steel soldiers in the area and that they seem to be in conflict with Enclave personnel. While this isn't that much to go on, the prospect of an as yet unexplored metropolis, resting between two of Fallout's greatest factions is enough to whet anybody's appetite. While many loved the gloomy, dense and urban experience that the East Coast setting of Fallout 3 afforded them, there were times where the game was desperately lacking some glimpse of sunlight. Unfortunately, just as many fans quickly tired of the arid wasteland of Fallout: New Vegas, which is why a midwestern take on the Fallout series, complete with its significantly less stagnant climate, might actually please everyone. Seeing as Chicago is one of the most populated cities in the United States and that it has both history and a number of recognisable and interesting sights, finding a setting that would be as commercially viable and genuinely interesting as Chicago is highly unlikely.
