Fallout 4: 14 Brand New Features You Need To Know About

2. New Weapons

As of time of writing there are two new weapons confirmed alongside a handful of older returners (the minigun, plasma weapons, baseball bat and Fat Man), and one of them in particular sounds like it'll be a whole lot of fun. Named the 'Junk Jet', fans screen-grabbed it from one of the trailers. It appears to be the next evolution of the Rock-It Launcher, giving you total freedom to blow apart enemies with any stockpiled junk or items, rather than the Rock-It's semi-specific ammo type. We're yet to see it in action, but the idea of essentially Half-Life 2's Gravity Gun hopping across into a world rife with things to pick up and fire across the incredible-looking wasteland is supremely sweet.
Second is this brilliant Pipe Pistol which can be crafted further into a rifle. Aesthetically it has a steampunk-meets-Mad Max look (or what we might as well call 'a Fallout look' now) and is most likely going to be one of the firearms you'll get access to early on. As your trusty sidearm, there are a whole heap of mods for it thereafter, including various scopes and sight options. Bethesda are really gunning for the hardcore RPG crowd with the game's crafting opportunities, and if there's one thing that makes such a system stand out, it's being able to take one lowly weapon from the beginning of your playthrough all the way to the end, both your character and it ending up in a vastly altered state when the credits roll.
