Fallout 4: 15 Ultimate Wishlist Features It Must Have

15. Epic Battles

Fallout as a series has always had a large number of competing factions, and in Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas the main story arcs were based around the conflict between these factions. The failure was to give any sense of scale to these conflicts - never did you feel as though your character were part of some huge battle, just one cog in a machine. The finale of Fallout: New Vegas was a battle between the Roman Legion and the New California Republic, and took place atop the Hoover Dam. On paper that is an awesome set piece to end a game with. In reality it was a damp squib. The battle, as it was, seemed slow and ponderous, with little exciting action. Bethesda attempted to capture this sense of battle in Skyrim, part of the Elder Scrolls series, but they were not 100% successful, as the battles lacked an epic scale, and felt underpopulated due to the lack of NPCs fighting by your side. Other games have been far more successful in capturing a huge all action battlefield, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare and Mount and Blade do a great job of adding a sense of scale and depth to their combat. These military factions colliding should feel like a big deal, and in Fallout 4 we need a sense of importance in these moments of combat. Of course, the new generation of hardware allows for far more characters being on screen at once, and Bethesda should take full advantage of this.
