While Bethesda has offered players one of the best main storylines to ever feature in one of its games with Fallout 4, the urge to rush through the main missions should be avoided at all costs. By rushing through the main quests (or even jumping straight from side-mission to side-mission) you rob yourself of the ability to grow stronger at the same pace as the story. Sure these quests are interesting, but you should take a little time to get your bearings in the aftermath of finishing one up. If you just jump around from location to location you'll miss all of the goodies that bit of the map has to offer - and more importantly, you'll miss all of the fine detail that the developers have put into crafting this lived-in world. While you don't have to exhaust every area and clear every building, getting the lay of the land and scavenging for some extra supplies can truly give you the edge when it comes to finally setting out on that next main mission.
