Fallout 4: All 5 Vault Locations & Their Creepy Backstories

1. Vault 114

More of a social experiment than the others, Vault 114 is an unfinished vault inside Park Street Station that was meant to be inhabited by members of society's upper classes, who were promised a life of subterranean luxury in which they wouldn't have to give up any of their many comforts and privileges that they were used to on the surface. But surprise, surprise, it was yet another lie from Vault-Tec. The actual conditions in Vault 114 were to be vastly inferior than those of non-experimental vaults, with multiple families crammed into small rooms, shared toilet facilities, and almost no amenities to distract the families from their privileged lives. The Overseer of this vault was supposed to be someone with strong anti-authority sentiments and no leadership experience whatsoever. One of the people interviewed for the job was one 'Soup Can Harry' - a classic tin-foil hat crackpot rambling on about government conspiracies and how he eats the chemical agent Abraxo cleaner just because the box tells him not to eat it. While this vault sounds like it actually would've made an excellent Reality TV show, it looks like it never came to fruition, with the reasons not being entirely clear. Not feeling depressed enough from this list of vault backstories? We have plenty more from previous Fallout games here.
