Fallout 4 DLC Wishlist: 9 Things Fans Demand

5. Separate Mini-Campaigns With New Character Builds

Most of the time when playing an RPG, either you realise you've started down the wrong path a few hours in and restart, or you're sick of your main build by the end of a few hundred hours and begin again anyway. One of the main criticisms of Fallout 4, was that its reworked perk system simply didn't allow for enough variation in said builds, and that's precisely why creating a couple of separate DLC packs with entirely new characters would work a treat. We wouldn't have to put hours of XP into seeing if a melee build suited our tastes or if stealthier approaches to encampments felt like the 'right' way to play. Instead, we'd have some self-contained story (maybe even a spin-off, like Nick Valentine's pre-war, fleshier days, or his escape from the Institute) to see how those other branches feel. Piper's more intense days as a reporter? A set of missions set in the pre-war, utopian vision of America the prologue is set in? An entirely different character witnessing the events of Fallout 4 from a different perspective? It could actually be a really interesting way of fleshing out the motivations of the populace. A constant problem with building massive RPGs like Fallout or Skyrim, is that everyone who plays only gets to see a tiny chunk of the full game. This would be a healthy way to remedy that, and could give you ideas on how to re-spec your own character once you're back in control.
