As someone who's made the mistake of thinking after an hour of successful survival mode adventuring , 'I'll just see what's in this abandoned building over here', before being quickly and unpredictably killed in some vicious fashion, I can tell you that it ain't fun losing your progress (even though the Adrenaline damage bonus you get for racking up kills without sleeping is extremely fun).

Probably the harshest mechanic in survival mode is having to sleep to save your game. Even if you've completed a quest, you'll still need to hit the hay for it to actually mean anything.

Because most of the settlements in the Boston Wasteland are concentrated in a relatively small part of the map, you'll often need to settle for less luxurious accommodation. Remember, the worse the quality of bedding, the worse the quality of your sleep will be, so you'll get tired quicker afterwards.

The bombed-out husks of buildings in urban Boston tend to have a grubby mattress or sleeping bag lying around, as do bandit camps - though then you have to ask yourself if you're prepared to fight to the death just to grab a bit of shut-eye.
