Fallout 4 Vs The Witcher 3: Which Is The Best RPG Of 2015?

2. Crafting

While a great idea in principle, crafting often feels clunky and tedious, and The Witcher 3 demonstrates why. Potions are crafted using mixtures of herbs, but I'll be damned if I'm expected to remember what each plant in the game looks like or what area of the world it grows in.
The game is packed with lore, so why can't you just sit down and read up on certain herbs, or ask local traders where they grow so they're then marked out on your map for future reference, or even give the option to mark them on your map yourself? Weapons and armour are dealt with a bit better, though the interface to do this still feels way more fiddly than it should. While not perfect, Fallout 4's crafting system at least tries to make things simple for you. When you find weapons, you can disassemble them and use their scopes, grips, muzzles and so on for different loadouts, or just turn them into scrap and put them towards your settlement-building resources pile. The interface is easy to navigate, and you often have to make trade-offs between things like weight, damage and fire rate. It's satisfying, robust, and one of the finer examples of an RPG crafting system to date. Go, Bethesda!
