While Bethesda undoubtedly make excellent RPGs, they sure do take their time with them. A seven-year gap plagued players as they waited patiently between Fallout 3 and 4, while five years passed between Oblivion and Skyrim.

Sadly, this extended development schedule could become even more protracted, as the company plans to also work on something else that isn't related to either of their most iconic franchises.

Players are already four-years deep into the current console cycle though, meaning that unless Bethesda prioritise the sequel, it's unlikely to see a PS4 or Xbox One release.

At the very least, confirming the platforms Fallout 5 will release on in 2018 will allow fans to temper their expectations somewhat, and point towards what the developer is actually currently working on next.
