Fallout 76: 10 Game-Changing New Details You Need To Know
8. Companions Are Out
It's sad to see them go, but in light of Fallout 76's departure from Bethesda's tried and true RPG formula, there's no place in this multiplayer setting for AI-controlled companions.
Besides any other justification for their absence, witnessing every player exploring West Virginia with an identical Dogmeat in tow would border on farcical, but really, the most likely reason for their retirement is that they're simply not needed.
In this shared post-apocalyptic world, you are the replacement for Fallout's hitherto antiquated companion system, meaning you'll have a bonafide human watching your back rather than an AI script. With player-to-player trading already confirmed to be in, you can even coerce your friend into serving as a pack mule until you return to base to offload the goods.
Solo players will feel the sting most, but if nothing else, it encourages lone wolf types to seek out a friend in this harsh, harsh world.
