A welcome expansion to character progression - and a necessary one if any semblance of balance is to be maintained - Fallout 76, as a series first, will gate certain weapons and armour behind level restrictions.

Yes, that means the Fat Man launcher you pulled out of a swamp at level five will likely not be usable for a good while, but it'll be there, stashed away in your inventory, encouraging you to accrue experience in order to use it.

Put simply, the new system provides incentive, beyond arbitrary stat increases, to keep plugging away at the grind while also serving as a handy indicator of what gear to look for when you're out looting corpses caught in the aftermath of a nuclear explosion.

No word yet, on whether Power Armour will be privy to the same restrictions, but it wouldn't be surprising, given its might, that the iconic armour will be late-game only gear.
