Fallout 76: 10 Take-Aways From Bethesda's E3 Conference
8. The Characters
The player character, like the other dwellers of Vault 76, was chosen specially to re-claim the wasteland before the war. They left the vault after everyone else, which is a pretty logical way to explain why loads of other player characters from the vault are already running around the wasteland.
Very few actual characters are mentioned other than the player character - the Overseer of Vault 76 is the person who gives the player their main quest, and there are no other named characters shown other than other players.
There's a cheeky nod to Preston Garvey from Fallout 4 at one point, when a player is shown killing another gamer called P.Garvey.
Notably the character's face isn't shown in the trailer - presumably it'll be as customisable as previous games. Many people reacted negatively to their player characters having families and backstories in Fallout 3 and 4, so Bethesda have clearly tried to limit this in order to enhance people's ability to role-play.
