Fallout: Ranking Every Vault From Least To Most Horrifying

9. Vault 22 - Nature Always Wins

Fallout Vault 112
Bethesda

In New Vegas, when you encounter Vault 22, you'll see it's quite unlike any other. In stark contrast to the Wasteland around you, Vault 22 is full of abundant green life, with plants growing on almost every surface.

Turns out the reason for this is the Vault was populated with scientists who specialises in creating crops which were resistant to disease, drought and disease. After being sealed, they continued on these experiments.

Unfortunately, the scientists went a bit too far. They developed a fungus for pest control purposes, but it had a life of its own, went airborne and began infecting the Vault's population. After many fell ill with a cough, they started to die, one by one. Only problem is...they didn't stay dead. The deceased came back as spore carriers which are very similar to the infected in Naughty Dog's The Last of Us.

The remaining scientists then tried to blow up the infected using gas and fire, but were overwhelmed by the monsters.

For those that survived, they trekked out into the Wasteland, where they became known as 'The Coughers' as they were still always coughing after being infected. They also turned to cannibalism soon after, gobbling down the original inhabitants of the Zion Canyon.
