6. It's Dark. Way Dark.

If the idea of your brother being murdered, your friends being kidnapped in order to be sold off and the very idea that you're going to have to go native to get them back isn't enough, then Far Cry 3 has plenty more on the twisted side to offer. Going in a direction the earlier games should have been more savvy to exploit, Far Cry 3 is a beautifully exotic, surreal game, which take full advantage of Jason's changing mental state for all it's worth, which when combined with the constant appearances of Vaas, makes for some truly haunting, bravura sequences throughout. More so than that, though, Far Cry 3 allows its characters to go much further than any previous character has in the franchise, and without giving away spoilers, it certainly gives the game a far more "hardcore" feel when compared to its open-world, sandbox competition. It's ultimate proof that you don't need a complex storyline to touch on visceral emotions within the player, and in fact, simplicity really might be the key of Far Cry 3's narrative.
