Far Cry 5 Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

4. Fun Takes Priority

Although tonal dissonance is something that's disappointing about Far Cry 5, the fact that it places fun above everything else is one of its most admirable qualities. At the end of the day, Far Cry 5 just wants you to grab a friend and blow some stuff up.

In many ways, Far Cry 5 could be compared to the Just Cause games in the sense that it gives you a massive world to do with what you please, except the Far Cry games have a much tighter focus and sense of character.

If you want a perfect example of how fun takes priority in Far Cry 5, just look at the Clutch Nixon missions. These stunt trials have players doing crazy stunts for absolutely no reason other than the fact that the game wants you to.

Going from crazy cultists shooting at you to riding an ATV through the air might be distracting to some, but you still have to admire Far Cry 5's commitment to fun.

With so many lamented the fact that Far Cry 5 doesn't do enough with it's story, just take a step back and try and appreciate the things that it actually does do.

Jumping through portals, swinging through cities, destroying beings made of darkness and occasionally shooting a gun or two. I also write about games.
