FIFA 13: 7 Things That Would Have Guaranteed Perfection

7. Historical Mode

I may be in the minority here, but the idea of playing in historically significant matches in a retro FIFA mode really appeals. Not only would players be able to control some of the legends of the game in iconic matches, stamping their own identity to those matches and changing the results, but the Mode could also include specific challenges like emulating the Arsenal Invincibles with the same squad, or avoiding relegation for a doomed team with ten games to go. For me personally, the prospect of showing Alan Shearer how Newcastle United could and should have been saved from relegation in 2008/09 would be enough to make this Mode a massive draw, but there are an infinite number of huge historical moments in the game and subsequent challenges that EA Sports could include. For a game property so obviously invested in the present and the future of the sport, a reflective, retro mode would go down well, particularly among older players, and the added challenge of changing history would surely appeal to the more competitive players and their egos. Just imagine stopping Maradona from going down in history against England in '86 by beating Argentina (on the hardest difficulty obviously), or taking Blyth Spartans to the final of the FA Cup in 1978. That would be a great way of celebrating the history of the Beautiful Game. So what do you think FIFA fans? Would you like to see the features above brought in for FIFA 14? Share your thoughts below.
