FIFA 14: 5 Essential Improvements To Gameplay

3. More Emphasis On Momentum

fifa14 Another problematic issue for me with the gameplay in FIFA 13 was the fact the opposition could spend 80 minutes under the cosh as you relentlessly attacked them, only to then go up the other end and score a winning goal in the last 10 minutes. This was something that was just about acceptable if you were playing a top team like Chelsea, but utterly ridiculous if you were playing a Sunderland. Players should be rewarded for their attacking intent and endeavour rather than punished for it, and scoring should become easier - not harder - the longer and harder you attack the opposition's goal. This is where fatigue should come into effect. The more you attack the defence, the weaker and tired they become, and the more chance you have of scoring. Think of it like a boxing match - the more you pummel the opponent, the more likely you are to floor them with a hay-maker. You may argue that the counter-attack is just part of football and that it is not impossible for the underdog to win a game despite suffering a beating for 70 minutes and more, and I'm not arguing that this feature should be removed from FIFA 14 - merely made less frequent. The team who build up the most momentum should be the team who has the better chance of winning the match.
