1. "Living Worlds"
Finally we come to "Living Worlds", another fanciful title but one of the most notable differences you will find between current and next generation versions of FIFA 14. The crowds on current machines are hilarious. Cardboard cut-out, copied and pasted spectators all wearing the same clothes and moving in the exact same way when a goal is scored. Now, however, there's a completely reworked 3D crowd who affect the way the game is played. If your team aren't performing, for example, the spectators will let them know about it, affecting the player's body language. Conversely, if you're losing 1-0 and are throwing the kitchen sink at the opposition in the final moments, the crowd will become anxious and start willing their side on, leading to the players running to take corners and shots. "Living Worlds" doesn't end there. There's now much more theatre to match days. Ahead of kick-off, for example, the camera pans around the stadium, taking in the surrounding area, adding an element of spectacle to the game. There's also more emphasis on storytelling ahead of kick-off, for instance if a player has handed in a transfer request during career mode, the camera will stay on him longer as the commentators discuss it. It is admittedly incremental changes to FIFA 14 on next generation consoles that make it stand out from current gen versions, and though none of the features I have discussed are huge game changers, they're enough to make me want to go out and buy a copy.
