FIFA 14 New Gameplay Trailer: 5 Key Things We Learned

5. There's No "Dirty Tackle" Option

fifatackle We will just wait for that disappointment to set in for a moment. That's right, the fabled "dirty tackle button" will once again by absent from the FIFA series, which I guess we all knew all along really, though it has now been officially ruled out by FIFA 14 producer Nick Channon. €œThe dirty tackle button€, €œhack button€, €œcheat button€, or whatever it was you and your friends used to refer to it as back on FIFA 2001 when this somewhat dubious gameplay feature first made its appearance in the franchise was once a popular addition to the series and allowed you and your friends to just goof around by hitting the R1 button on the PlayStation controller and seeing who could get the most players sent off. The dirty tackle feature allowed players to deliberately scythe down opponents and even elbow them, but long-term fans of the series will once more have to abide by the rules of the game in FIFA 14. When discussing player collisions and impacts at E3, Nick was asked if players could use their elbows to deliberately harm an opponent, to which he replied:
"No, no not at all. Absolutely not. This is contextual, they (the players) know there's a collision coming so it's just (use of elbows) part of the animation. No you're not going to be able to elbow players, that's not something we want to add into our game."
Oh well. I guess we always have the age-old studs up tackle from behind trick.
