FIFA 16: 10 Big Things You Need To Know From E3

8. Defensive Variation

Scoring goals is the most crucial, fundamental aspect of football, both virtual and in the real world. But in FIFA, there's something hugely satisfying about keeping things tight and squeezing out close games, much to the annoyance of your superior opponent. Attacking play has been heavily emphasised in recent years, but the defensive side of the game is getting a bulk up this time around, hopefully to provide a greater balance. FIFA 16 is including more animations, and more flexible defenders to allow them to turn and pivot while chasing down oncoming attackers. Tackle recovery times are shorter meaning that sliding in or sticking a leg out to nick the ball doesn't automatically end your chances of keeping pace. Defences will hold their shape better, and players will be able to 'air tackle' meaning that if the ball is falling from the air or just above the surface, defenders can clip it away rather than slide aimlessly underneath it.
