He may be a year older, his legs may have slowed (fractionally), but there is no movement in Cristiano Ronaldo's FIFA rating. And why should there be? He has probably just embarked on the most successful season of his career to date.

Many had queried whether the end was nigh for Cristiano as he struggled under Rafa Benitez' slow-tempo game at the start of last season. In typically Ronaldo fashion, he responded with 51 goals in 48 appearances, and Champions League and European Championship medals to proudly adorn around his neck.

The Portuguese superstar is currently favourite to claim his fourth Ballon d'Or this year following such a successful calendar year, although Luis Suarez might feel aggrieved following his similarly superhuman goalscoring form.

The critics may be lying in wait, brandishing their knives, and hoping for the 31-year-old's age to catch up with him. But judging by the antics from last season, there is plenty of life in the old dog yet.
