Marcelo is a man not without his critics. Like most - if not all - Brazilian full-backs, he can attack with aplomb. Essentially a winger deployed in a defensive position, Marcelo is a menace, rampaging forward with purpose and drive.

There is no getting away from the fact however, the he suffers from lapses in concentration and is prone to silly errors. At a club like Real Madrid, where they have players of the ilk of Cristiano Ronaldo slamming in 50 odd goals a season, he can just about get away with it, but throw him in a Valencia or Villareal side, and watch him flounder when pressurised.

Last season was a decent one for him however, playing 41 times and contributing to the team's Champions League victory.
