Why Fans Would Love It

Over the years, FIFA games have really started to push the idea of developing youngsters to add to your team during Career Mode. As players retire, new players are needed to replace them, so being able to choose from a range of young players, all with different stats and potential skill ratings, then seeing them rise up the ranks to become a club legend really gives a sense of satisfaction.

However, these features are currently limited to a few basic menus. Having an actual league with fixtures and a table would be an ideal way to improve the function of developing young talent. Being able to see which players are performing well and which ones are scoring goals would help you decide exactly which ones to call up to the first team.

Also, having a proper reserve team would finally give you a chance to deal with the most annoying aspect of Career Mode; unruly players who demand transfers. Taking some whiny player who’s moaning about not getting games and dumping him in the reserves would feel so much better than just hiding them at the bottom of the squad list.

Why It Will Never Happen

There’s a reason that developing young players is currently done using a few simple menus…because it's simple. If EA can get away with reducing something down to a series of basic menus, they will.

Real reserve leagues would be great, but it would mean having to simulate even more leagues, fixtures and results in the background, again for just one small part of the game.
