FIFA 17: 8 Things EA Still Can't Get Right
7. Set Pieces
Set-pieces are a divisive issue when it comes to FIFA. Every year, at least one out of free kicks, penalties and corners get changed and causes fans to either celebrate or rage. FIFA 17 has decided to update all three, meaning this year’s set-pieces are now completely different to previous games, with off-the-ball control at corners and adjustable run-ups for penalties.
Depending on who you speak to, these changes are either the improvements fans have been waiting for all these years, or a massive slap in the face of players who had finally perfected the mechanics. Every time they change the free kicks or penalties (does moving your player back two feet really make that much of a difference?), it’s just another unnecessary game mechanic we need to learn.
This list is full of things that really do need updating, so why do EA feel like they need to mess around with set-pieces every year? The actual sport of football hasn’t changed set-pieces this much over the last 150 plus years! It comes across as EA being lazy by making radical and obvious changes to the set-pieces just to make it clear that this year’s FIFA is different from last years.
