FIFA 18 Demo: 7 Things We Learned

1. The Journey 2 Looks Special

FIFA 18 The Journey
EA Sports

First, a disclaimer. If you didn't enjoy The Journey from FIFA 17, then it's likely you won't find much to enjoy in Hunter Returns. This is largely more of the same thing, only bigger and more like an episode of the old Sky One drama Dream Team than ever before. Honestly, the opening scenes play out like a Hollywood movie.

Whilst deliberately keeping players in the dark, EA tell the story of how 18-year old Alex Hunter raises the ire of his Premier League fan base by being linked to one of the world's biggest clubs. Then, in a dramatic moment, it appears your agent has been had and Real Madrid were never interested in the first place. It's all very topsy-turvy, and exactly what it should be.

Anyone complaining that The Journey is a little far-fetched should remember that this is EA's way of offering something different to those bored of endless exhibition matches or Career Mode slogs. Best of all, it looks like Hunter is beginning to believe his own hype, which is an interesting direction for the mode.
