FIFA 18 Wishlist: 10 Things That Must Be Included
3. Character Customisation In The Journey
Following Alex Hunter’s career during The Journey was one of FIFA 17’s major highlights. As is often the case with such predetermined protagonists, however, there were times when Hunter felt distant and shallow as a character. It was often hard to get invested and immersed in FIFA’s pre-built avatar, and thus, there were times when The Journey’s bigger moments fell a tad flat.
Introducing full-on character customisation would solve all these problems. It’d be so much easier to invest in The Journey if you were able to play as your own creation, rather than EA’s chosen fictional player. So much of The Journey feels like Be A Pro as it is, so bringing that game mode’s player creation system over shouldn’t take much effort, and would be a big step in making The Journey feel like a less rigid experience.
Voice acting would be the one major stumbling block, but EA could get around this by hiring a handful of actors to record a number of different options. Be A Pro has always been a fun game mode, and by coupling its customisation with The Journey’s narrative-driven focus, EA could strike gold.
