FIFA 19: 6 Rumours You Need To Know About

2. Virtual Reality FIFA

On that note, PlayStation VR has become a big talking point for EA recently.

Fan site dreamteamfc have drawn attention to comments made by Nate Mitchell (co-founder of the Oculus Rift) to Eurogamer several years ago before VR was even in circulation as Sony hardware. Back then, Mitchell waxed lyrical about the tantalising prospect of sitting in the stands with friends via VR but controlling the action on the pitch.

That all sounds fun, and it could be closer to (virtual) reality than some may think. Sony are already ahead of their original six-month sales targets for VR and have shifted over one million units to date. That could be enough to convince EA that dabbling with VR is a shrewd idea while it's around; gimmick or not, it's a popular one.

Besides, it'd be incredible to have that level of immersion. EA spoke of bringing stadium crowds to life last year by upping the level of atmosphere when goals were scored or player-controlled teams were up against it at home. Actually sitting in the stands, or even a director's box, and taking in the noise around you would feel futuristic and snazzy.

Basically, this needs to happen.
