FIFA 19: 7 Things Hardcore Fans Want From The Journey 3
3. Greater Emphasis On Realistic Performance Goals
There's a cut-throat vibe to managerial expectations in FIFA's Journey, and, in fairness, perhaps that's the way real football works. Managers will set players targets to meet each season, and they will outline what they want from substitutes coming on for the last half hour.
As it is though, performance expectations were a bit useless game-to-game in FIFA 18, and they didn't really impact Hunter's story. What was the point of them then? If it's not critical that Alex reached that 'Target Match Rating' (because it doesn't fit the narrative), then it shouldn't be there at all.
EA can remedy this by turning up the importance of performance objectives and, more vitally, upping their meaning again when players exceed them.
An example: in FIFA 18, when playing on one of the lower difficulties, it wasn't hard to blast in four or five goals a game with Hunter. Nobody seemed to pay attention to that, or even when he failed to find the net at all. It'd be nice to see some concurrent stories between all three main characters that reflect their individual form sheets.
