FIFA 19 Wishlist: 10 Things The Fans Demand
6. Sort Out The Defending
Although FIFA's gameplay lacks the tactical depth of the latest PES, it's accessible, fast-paced and insanely satisfying when the ball hits the back of the net. That said, there's scope for improvement out there on the pitch.
Defending is an area that EA Sports must address in FIFA 19, as it failed to get the balance right on two separate occasions with the latest instalment. At launch, the game overcompensated for one of FIFA 17's biggest problems, namely the fact AI did most of the defending on the player's behalf, making it overly difficult to score.
FIFA 18 took things to the other extreme and made the intricacies of its new defence system incredibly tough to master, resulting in crazy score-lines like 7-6 and 8-5 in online matches. EA attempted to rectify this with a patch, yet still didn't get the balance right, and has now left players with a similarly oppressive system to FIFA 17's.
As well as balance, fine tuning is also needed when it comes to rear guard controls. Standing tackles are often clumsy and the AI could use an upgrade so players track opposition runs more effectively. Tweaks like this would help level the playing field between FIFA and PES from a gameplay standpoint.
