FIFA 21: 10 Reasons To Be Worried
5. Career Mode
Incremental progress.
That could be the phrase used to describe FIFA's approach towards Career Mode. In fact, stick "incremental progress" in speech marks, because some would argue there's no progress at all. If anything, the mode is regressing into a directionless plod through fixture lists with added bells and whistles that do bugger all.
The whole system needs to be stripped down and completely rebuilt. EA don't seem to realise that fans crave immersion, or at least some more Footy Manager-style elements that make them feel like they're actually making a difference off the pitch. In FIFA 20, added tweaks like Create-A-Manager and dialogue wheels for press conferences helped, but they're hardly enough and they were only aesthetic add-ons anyway.
FIFA's Career has stalled like it's gaming's equivalent of David Moyes. There's no reason to expect that 21 will offer anything new outside of a few fresh backdrops for contractual negotiation cutscenes or different answers to the media's (often unrealistic) questioning.
