FIFA 21 Review: 6 Ups & 7 Downs

2. Retraining Positions Is Powerful But Risky

One of the better changes EA has made to Career Mode is the ability to retrain a player's position. Basically, if you think that James Milner should drop back from midfield into defence as a CB, then have at it. Be warned though, 'cause this isn't a foolproof feature.

It can go terribly wrong and actually worsen a player's overall rating.

That's a good thing though. It means there's a risk and reward tension - you could, in theory, destroy a player's career by trying to make them something they're not. Try to turn Messi into a wing back, for example, and you'll be hearing from his legal team. Probably. Maybe not.

The thing is, it should be this risky. You'll have to keep an eye on a player's attributes (or train them up) before deciding where to best deploy them on the pitch. On the plus side, it's possible to exponentially improve a youngster by retraining them.
