FIFA 21 Review: 6 Ups & 7 Downs
5. You Still Can't Play As Real Managers
There are Career Mode improvements (check out the 'Ups' section for that) this year, but those hoping to live vicariously through the eyes of Jürgen Klopp or erm...Sean Dyche will be disappointed to learn that they can't. FIFA 21 doesn't include the option to play as actual real-world managers.
This feels like a missed opportunity.
True-to-life managers have been in FIFA for years now. Pick a Premier League opponent and you'll see the likes of Klopp, Pep Guardiola and others prowling the touchline and kicking every ball. That immersion seems a bit broken when they're not playable and never move clubs independently.
Of course, licensing is a stickler there; Liverpool probs don't want to let Klopp manage Man Utd, for example. Understandable? Yes. Irritating? You're damn right. This is 2020, and gamers should be able to customise the FIFA universe to their own liking, or at least step into the shoes of their favourite coaches.
