FIFA 22 Review: 7 Ups & 5 Downs

6. Volta Arcade & Abilities

FIFA 22
EA Sports

Volta has always come across as an undercooked version of FIFA Street to this player. The fact it was just FIFA's core gameplay on a smaller pitch always conjured up that pesky "missed opportunity" phrase - where was the OTT fun? Well, in short, it's starting to show face.

FIFA 22's take on Volta offers new abilities that almost act like superhero traits. These move the mode further away from real football, which is surely the point, and they make the most of the 'run-and-gun' goal feast feel these brief snippets of footy-meets-basketball are supposed to throw up.

Then, there's the Arcade.

Weirdly, Volta Arcade is only available to play on weekends for now. That's baffling, because the fun diversions and party-like mini-games should be on tap whenever gamers like. Dodge, Foot Tennis, Team Keepaway and Disco Lava are all worth checking out.
