FIFA 23 Review: 8 Ups & 6 Downs

2. Real Managers Should’ve Been Better

FIFA 23
EA Sports

As the intro revealed, it's entirely possible to conjure up your own wild scenarios by using real-life managers in Career Mode. Want Steven Gerrard to get that elusive Liverpool gig? Have at it. Think it'd be awesome if Pep returned to Barca? Make it happen.

Sadly, everything's still a bit hollow.

Yes, it's lovely to play as Guardiola when picking Man City, but...he's just a bog-standard created manager wearing a Pep Halloween mask. In other words, there's nothing about him that feels bespoke. Press conferences play out the same way, players don't react to him any differently, and it's clear EA could've done so much more here.

Top managers, for example, should have their own unique set of quirks. They should have individual relationships with the media, an ability to draw in star players from the around the globe because of their credibility etc. Maybe next year, eh?
