FIFA 23 Review: 8 Ups & 6 Downs

3. FUT Changes (But Not Really)

FIFA 23 FUT Ultimate Team
EA Sports

Time to be brutally honest: This FIFA fanboy has never really liked Ultimate Team. He understands why people get addicted, and why EA love it so much (it rakes in a bottomless pit of money), but it's just not for him. Despite that, it was nice to see FIFA 23's banner mode get a few new updates.

The chemistry system is capped at 33 rather than 100 this year, and there's a much looser set of rules when it comes to putting a successful, winning team on the park. The new 'Moments' suite, which rewards gamers for ticking off individually-tailored tasks tied to certain players, is a neat touch too.

Frustratingly though, FUT is still geared towards play-to-win mechanics. They might've been de-emphasised slightly, but they're still present; lingering in the background like some wallet leech. You're having fun, but you're being rinsed to do so when seeking the really big rewards.

That's impossible to ignore.
