FIFA 23 Review: 8 Ups & 6 Downs

7. Power Shots Are Legitimately Fun

Those with creaking joints amongst you might recall the Psygnosis-produced 90s erm...classic Adidas Power Soccer. In that PS1 title, players could rattle off powerful shots that'd literally push goalies back into the net. FIFA 23's power shots don't quite pack the same punch, but they are overpowered as hell.

Fun though.

Everybody knew these would be arcade-y going in anyway. The trade off is that power shots take a long time to wind up, so defenders are likely to sneak in and toe poke the ball away before your striker launches one into the top bin. Pull one off, however (whilst aiming it properly), and you'll love the results.

In time, these could become an edge-of-the-box go to for many players. The wonky defensive AI means you'll have more time to experiment with them offline than you will in FUT, but they're worth keeping in mind. On PS5, press both the L1 and R1 buttons, then hold circle for some over-the-top blasters.
