Final Fantasy: 10 Incredible Statistics You Won't Believe

2. The Characters With the Most Appearances Are...

Despite most Final Fantasy stories being complete experiences, it doesn’t mean that characters are limited to that single title. Thanks to the series' deep well of spin-offs, the likes of Terra Branford and Squall Lionheart have been able to get a few extra appearances in to note down on their resumé.

But who is Final Fantasy's mascot? Perhaps Moogle and Chocobo (or even Cactuar and Tonberry), but these are breeds of creatures. Which single character best flies the flag of Final Fantasy?

Cloud Strife currently records the highest number of playable appearances when it comes to Final Fantasy heroes. This is 21 total FF games over the years: every edition of Theatrhythm and Dissidia, All the Bravest, Record Keeper, a cameo in Tactics and there’s even a mobile game dedicated to his motorbike chase from the original FF7. Adding in a few outside appearances like Ehrgeiz, Smash Brothers and the Itadaki Street games brings that total up to an incredible 29 performances.

When you take playable out of the equation, the answer is easily Gilgamesh. In just the Final Fantasy series, the wandering swordsman has 36 appearances over the years. Whilst his design and function occasionally change, he remains pretty consistent as a multiple weapon-wielding powerful force.

Alongside it, Gilgamesh’s theme Battle on the Big Bridge has had eighteen in-game arrangements since its first appearance in Final Fantasy V in 1993, making it one of the most revisited pieces of music in the franchise.
