Final Fantasy 14: 10 Reasons It Deserves Your Attention In 2021
3. A Story? In an MMO?
Despite what you may have been told from Warcraft vets and DC Universe Online players, the MMO genre doesn't have to be an empty grind fest.
Final Fantasy XIV is a full, epic tale spanning multiple expansions and exotic locations fitting of the series. The tale presented in A Realm Reborn, while suffering from pacing issues at times, doesn't look out of place with the rest of the series' journeys. Sure, the create-your-own protagonist has far less development that the likes of the aloof-yet-heroic Cloud Strife or the... aloof-yet-heroic Noctis Lucis Caelum, but what the game loses in a compelling main character is made up for by a whole batch of lovable castmates.
It's true that the early stages of Final Fantasy XIV are in-keeping with the worst of MMO fetch quests, but as we're introduced to the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and the remaining of the three cities become open for exploration the potential for spectacular plot moments begins to rise.
Wrapped in an already engrossing tale of relinquishing evil and restoring peace are a smattering of side stories that accompany the class you selected, and while there are surely too many for any mere mortal to complete, they rarely disappoint; often the opposite.
